Blowing Rock History Video

A Village Tapestry Video

About This Video

This video was produced as a partnership between the Blowing Rock Historical Society and the Blowing Rock Civic Association.  The Historical Society is sincerely appreciative that the Civic Association paid for the production.

Our special thanks goes to Dr. Barry Buxton who scripted the video and spent endless hours delivering it in front of the camera.  Jean Kitchen also worked hard to coordinate production of the video and ensure the project moved forward.  Without the efforts of these two individuals and the generosity of the Civic Association, this video would not exist.

This video is about eight very special women that made substantial contributions to our community and helped shape our history.  The video was produced as a partnership between the Blowing Rock Historical Society and the Blowing Rock Civic Association.  The Historical Society is sincerely appreciative that the Broyhill Family Foundation provided a grant that allowed us to pay for this video.

This is yet another fine example of the magnificent work of Dr. Barry Buxton who did all the research, scripting and delivered in front of the camera.

"Against All Odds"
Blowing Rock Horse Show
Centennial Video

About This Video

This video was primarily funded by the Blowing Rock Historical Society, and it was produced by the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show Foundation.  In 1923, the Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show was founded, and as of 2023, it is the longest continuing running horse show in America.  The video is appropriately titled, "Against All Odds", and it is incredible that a small town like ours has been able to continue the event every year despite depression, wars, Covid, and any number of obstacles that never got in the way of this delightful event.

A special thanks goes to Dr. Barry Buxton who invested countless hours planning, scripting and performing for this wonderful video.
